At TSTI, we love movies about space. As a matter of fact, we’ve written about the science behind Interstellar in a previous blog and how fascinating it is to dissect what is incredibly accurate about the film, what is just speculation, and what is just flatout wrong. At the end of the day, however, the end result is still a great movie that’s enjoyable to watch.

We’ve also written about how a movie may have led you to consider enrolling in one of our online aeronautical engineering courses. Our team has even written about which movies to watch while you’re taking a break from your studies! It’s pretty much inevitable that you’re going to need to take a break and enjoy a bit of downtime while working your way through one of our aerospace engineering courses, but it’s certainly never a bad idea to keep your head in the right place.

That’s why in today’s blog, we’d like to provide our reader with a list of a few more movies we think you should watch either while you’re taking a break from studying in one of our courses or to get yourself excited and inspired to sign up for a class at TSTI! Whether you decide to enroll in a course online or onsite, you can rest assured that we will go above and beyond to provide our students with the information that matters. Wondering which movies to get started on? Keep reading for our recommendations!

A Brief History of Time

Available on both Blu Ray and DVD from the Criterion Collection (a company who is known for undertaking restorations for films in order to ensure that consumers get the best version possible), A Brief History of Time is based on the book of the same name by famed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking and it’s described as being “at once as small as a single life and as big as the ever-expanding universe.”

This film is currently sitting at 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and we can confidently say that if you’re interested in understanding space while getting a unique and interesting perspective all wrapped into a fascinating film, this is the one for you. Both engaging and informative, this is the rare movie that delights you while also teaching. Give it a try!

Hidden Figures

Rotten Tomatoes notes that “in heartwarming, crowd-pleasing fashion, Hidden Figures celebrates overlooked–and crucial–contributions from a pivotal moment in American history.” If you’re not familiar with this story, it is about three African American women (Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson), who helped to put John Glenn into space. Like A Brief History of Time, this film is also based on a book that could be considered essential reading for anyone who has a love for space.

Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, this movie that is based on a true story is one that helps to provide some much-needed perspective about this history of space exploration and the things people have done to achieve their goals. Not only is this film heartwarming, but it can also help to stoke the fires needed to propel you to success in one of our online aeronautical engineering courses. An article in Popular Mechanics about the film notes that Katherine Johnson mentions that she was just doing her job, but that “sometimes changing the world is just that.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

Sometimes you just need to shut your brain off and enjoy a good, old fashioned popcorn flick. Packed to the brim with action and excitement and featuring an all-star cast Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is just flat out fun. Is it scientifically accurate? Well…not quite. But is it exactly the blast you need while you’re taking a break from studying? Absolutely it is!

According to a plot synopsis on the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki, this film “continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos.” Whether you’ve seen the first movie or not, we think that you’ll enjoy being treated to a visually appealing movie that just knows how to have a good time. Noted for having a particularly good soundtrack, this is the movie to watch if you want to just kick back, relax, and enjoy the experience of getting lost in another world. With excellent performances from Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Kurt Russell, we think that watching Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is a great way to spend an evening.
