A launch vehicle’s huge propellant-storage container that holds cryogenic oxygen and hydrogen for the launch vehicle (ex: Space Shuttle Main Engines). The space shuttle had two internal tanks for the oxygen and hydrogen and an intertank for access to the other two tanks and the associated plumbing and electrical connections. The external tank was not reusable because it dropped away from the Orbiter just before reaching orbital velocity, re-entered the atmosphere, and disintegrated before impacting Earth.
