Eb/No is the ratio of the received energy per bit (Eb) to noise power spectral density (No). We use this in place of signal to noise ratio when dealing with digital communication. Friis’ Equation can be used to determine the value of this ratio. The required Eb/No needed for a given link depends on the modulation technique chosen and the number of lost bits you are willing to live with.
