The job of the spacecraft ECLSS is to provide the required temperature, atmosphere and other conditions necessary to keep the payload (including astronauts!) healthy and happy. We typically state ECLSS design requirements in terms of acceptable operating ranges. We can divide the tasks of the ECLSS conceptually into two problems – thermal control and life support.
