heat pipes

Active thermal-control devices that are tubes, closed at both ends, filled with a working fluid, such as ammonia. When one end is close to a heat source, the fluid absorbs some heat and vaporizes. Gas pressure forces the vapor to the cooler end where the heat passes out of the pipe by conduction. The vapor cools in the heat-passing process and condenses into a liquid. Then it flows back to the other end to repeat the process.
